Russell Brown grew up in Santa Barbara and attended Hollister Elementary and La Colina Jr. High before graduating from San Marcos High School – where he played soccer and volleyball – in 2002. After high school, Russell attended the University of California at Davis, where he captained the varsity soccer team and majored in sociology with a law and society emphasis.
Russell’s first criminal defense work came in 2007, when he worked as a law clerk for Santa Barbara criminal defense attorneys Daniel Murphy and Michael Carty. At Loyola Law School in Los Angeles Russell volunteered for the Innocence Project, a non-profit organization that assists prisoners with post-conviction relief, including habeas corpus petitions.
After law school, Russell began working for a national law firm that specialized in complex tort litigation. Following the closure of that firm, he returned to Santa Barbara to pursue criminal defense.
Currently Russell practices criminal defense in Santa Barbara, California. He also works on civil litigation, family law, and estate planning matters. His current interests include criminal justice reform, and coaching youth soccer.
